the neat thing about all this
The thing is, you are my friends, even if I never met most of you. You’re the people I talk with, the people I share my music and pictures with, the people who laugh at my jokes and make me laugh in return. I’m not very good with the social thing outside of my house, and twitter and tumblr have made me realize there are tons of people out there who are socially awkward as I am. Sites like this allow me to maintain some level of friendship without actually having to go out in public and make eye contact with people.
It’s been a long day, most of which I’ve spent regrettably out of touch with the normal fun online. I just finished reading Michele’s post (excerpted above), Justine’s reblog, and the understandable string of other reblogs and hearts that followed. And I have to tell you, when I think about how quickly I’ve made certain new friends through sharing wit, absurdity, and love with you guys on these here internets, it damn near brings me to tears. I can’t even cough up a joke to diffuse the genuine emotion. I know, right?
To so many of you who’ve reached out and fostered friendship with me, thank you. I don’t take you for granted. And I want to question the assertion that any of us are truly as socially awkward as we fear or profess, and invite us all to get together and practice our friendships in real life every chance we get. You know where I live. Don’t you dare let a visit to Pittsburgh pass without hunting me down for a real, live conversation. And don’t think that, when I come to your town, I won’t do the same.
XOXO,
Geoff
