I’m having the same issues as you. What ID did you use to set up Find My Friends? I’m trying to use my gmail but it’s setting up a new Cloud account? WTF?

I used my gmail account - the one that is my Apple ID - to set up FF. I’m not sure it would have mattered, though. Both iCloud accounts have access to Contacts on my phone.
