A birthday cocktail for Beth
Although I can legitimately claim to have invented one (and only one) cocktail, dedicating it to you for your birthday would amount to little more than a highball glass full of lies. On ice. With a lime wedge. But, as Julie presently reminds me, I digress.
For your birthday, Beth, we made a different kind of cocktail. A cocktail for all ages (not just your age) to...
So, who all will be in Pittsburgh?
tbridge:
I know that Kate, Tiffany and I will be there, and so will TJ and WifeOfTJ, but who else is coming that we get to hang out with? I think I saw that Theresa is coming, and also Annie, but I might be making that up. Srsly, who should we get excited about?(1)
(1) Okay, MORE excited about. We’re already pretty excited.
Here’s the attendance spreadsheet, which you can use to...
Exeunt Omnes
Kids, in near unison: What's the difference between roast beef and pea soup?
Dad: What?
Jack, representing the others: Anyone can roast beef, but no one can pea soup!!
All: [uproarious laughter followed by a lull]
Dad: So, guys, how do you like the chicken broth?
Kids, in near unison: [gagging sounds, stampede to bathroom]
Now those are some shoes
One simply cannot overstate the comfort of the Keen Portsmouth. They’re like mansions for your feet, and that’s just the beginning of the hyperbole. The fact is, these shoes are salvation for your feet. Salvation from discomfort of any kind. From pinching, from corns and callouses, from not being massaged at the end of a hard day of work.
Simply the act of buying these shoes will...

Letterboxed
Inspired by the Exquisite Corpse drawings of the Surrealists in the early 1920s, created by your friends and mine, and coming in June to this spot right here.
And now for something completely different.
Judgment isn’t egalitarian. Whether you’re talking about painting or literature...
– Daniel! What an unpopular thing so say! I will only “like” it if you agree to “like” something-anything of mine in return, and together we will rule the galaxy!
One thing, though? It’s Klee, Warhol, Monet, if you’re listing them by quality of output in descending...
I can’t be the very last person to see this stunning time lapse video of the volcano in Iceland and get excited (you know what I mean by excited) by the soundtrack (Is that Enya? Is it spring? Ladies?), right?

Back in the 1920s Emile Fradin was working in a field when one of his cows stumbled into an underground chamber. It was full of strange objects - human bones with strange markings on them, human masks, hermaphrodite idols with phalluses on their head. And most mysterious of all - square clay tablets inscribed with an unknown language.

At the heart of the mystery was the strange...
CK One Summer
Specifically, the summer of 2006. So, it’s approaching 4 years old. What is it in us that makes us think a newly rediscovered bottle of 4-year-old once-fashionable cologne is the thing to splash all over ourselves upon exiting the bath on an otherwise perfectly good Sunday morning?
I bet it’s the same thing that makes us wonder if maybe that 20-year old hole through that one nipple is...
Pancake Breakfast: ¡Our Debut Full-Length Record! →
YOU MAY ALREADY KNOW THIS, BUT…
Neven & Christa Mrgan both create fantastically gratifying stuff*. From gorgeous software for the Mac, to iPhone apps & games, to gold nuggets of acting and tomfoolery, to my favorite cooking & food blog, to the wild and wily musical stylings of Pancake Breakfast - who’s raising money on Kickstarter to record a full-length album.
Pledging...

I bet you didn't realize people are coming to...
If you haven’t RSVP’d - especially if you’re planning to attend - please take a minute or two of Sally Struthers’ time and RSVP NOW.
If you don’t know what I’m talking about, well, I’m talking about what I was just talking about up there in the wordy title section of this post: A Party on May 29th in Pittsburgh at the Firehouse Lounge. Seriously, you...

A serious question
The oil spill is insanely upsetting to consider. The pictures make me sick, make me angry, bring me to tears. The visualizations are compelling, but detached from anything actionable, and “share this” isn’t a response.
Before we’re all desensitized to the imagery, there’s an opportunity to link each harrowing visual to something constructive - to make use of these...
